The Impact Of Newer Medications On Potential To Parent In Women With Severe, Chronic Psychiatric Disorders

Dr Debbie Wilson, Mothers and Babies Unit, Princess Margaret Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand.

The histories of three women and their babies will be outlined. These women all suffer from severe, chronic, psychiatric illness and in recent times they have been treated with novel anti-psychotics. The impact of the newer anti-psychotics on their illness and level of functioning, in particular their capacity to parent, will be discussed.
